Lucky Winners of The Text A Tree Draw Revealed!

After months of speculation, the winners of the Text a Tree prize draw were revealed at 15.00pm on the 11th July, at Bradley Stoke Community School.

Connor Loughlin, designer of the Text a Tree leaflet was responsible for selecting the winning stubs from the raffle ticket and text entries, along with Nimisha Mistry. As a result, we are very pleased to announce the following winners and congratulate them on their success:

Business in the Community

A gift- wrapped sponsorship opportunity

The Forest of Avon Trust attended the Business in the Community SW Awards for Excellence gala dinner on 7th June.

Each of the 170 attendees from the business community in the SW had an English Cox apple, gift wrapped with a unique Forest of Avon Trust sponsorship message. BITC Regional Director Jo Le Poidevin, also promoted the sponsorship opportunity offered by the Trust as part of her presentation.

Jon Clark, Forest of Avon Trust Executive Director, said: ‘The Trust is really grateful for this opportunity to present its great offer to the business community and I would really like to thank, Jo, colleague Nicola Prince and Nicola Mason for their help and Waitrose, for donating the apples. I really look forward to working with BITC in the future’.

Improved Information: Kingsweston Woods

Rolls Royce has been a supporter of the Forest of Avon Trust since it started and this commitment and funding has been invaluable.

Rolls Royce apprentices, graduates and trainees are currently working with the Forest of Avon Trust on an access improvement project. This is establishing knowledge and use of the woodlands of the Kingsweston Estate by all sections of the local community and will make suggestions about how this can be cost- effectively improved.

The project aims to make a positive contribution to the to the people surrounding the Kingsweston Estate (owned by Bristol City Council) and also support the personal/ professional development of Rolls Royce staff.

250 Trees & Shrubs Planted in Front Gardens

The Trust’s Garden Forest scheme works with people in areas of low tree cover to promote the benefits of trees, provide guidance on how to plant and care for them and provide free trees or shrubs. It helps to support wider community action for the environment. More »

1,500 Free Trees for Local Communities

The Trust has provided advice and over 1,500 free trees and shrubs for planting by communities across Bristol & the West this winter. These have been planted in schemes in Montpelier and Weston and also a project in Keynsham.

Free Trees are funded through business donations,  Text a Tree and through the Friend’s scheme. Free trees are a great way to improve areas for now and the future and mobilise local community action.

We intend to expand the Free Trees scheme in the winter of 2011/ 12, so please join us as a Friend, business sponsor or send us a text.

Connor Loughlin Wins Text a Tree Leaflet Competition

14 year old Connor Loughlin from Bradley Stoke Community School has won the competition to design a leaflet to promote the Forest of Avon Trust’s Text a Tree competition. Connor’s design was chosen ahead of others because of its eye-catching design and clear messages. Connor was delighted to win and sees this project as contributing to a career in IT. More »

To get your tree planted locally and be entered into the prize draw just follow these simple guidelines: Text  Tree, your first name, house number and your postcode to 80039.  (for example Tree Nicola 22 BS11 0NN) send text to 80039. Texts cost £1.50 + your network rate. All entries should be received by 0900 Monday 11th July 2011 for inclusion in the draw which will take place at Bradley Stoke Community School later that day. Entries received after that time will not be entered and may be charged.

If you are unable to text, but would still like to get a tree planted locally and enter the draw, you can buy raffle tickets from us at the following venues; dates to be confirmed, where they are not given:
