Level 1: Introduction to Forest School Principles

Participants will explore and experience all aspects of the Forest School approach, learning a range of activities to use with groups.

Over the two days, the course allows participants to:

o   Experience a Forest School session.

o   Explore the Forest School ethos and principles how it can benefit groups of all ages.

o   Learn practical skills and activities to use with groups in an outside setting, including: sensory exploration, shelter building, games and using natural materials.

o   Develop an understanding of managing risk and how to work safely in an outdoor setting.

o   Learn about the woodland environment and its wildlife and how to minimise impact.

o   Make a start on written work for a portfolio (to be completed in participants own time to gain the accreditation).

The Level 1 course requires:

o   2 days taught time on the course

o   14 hours self-study time – including a minimum 2 hour observation of a Forest School session and time to complete written work in portfolio

o   A DBS (formerly CRB check) to have been undertaken by the organisation/group the participant works or volunteers with.

Ascentis (formerly AptEd) Introduction to Forest School Principles Level 1 certificate
