Trees for Learning

Trees for Learning

Engaging young people, and anyone who is learning, in the natural world is critically important.

We work with school children to plant and care for trees, explaining their many benefits; and run woodland conservation activities for young people who have behavioural and other needs.

We have recently completed delivering the 4 year Defra funded Trees for Learning project across schools in the area - a hugely successful project resulting in the engagement of 6,800 schoolchildren and planting thousands of trees.

School’s Orchard Programme and additional tree planting

With over 70 school orchards planted, the Forest of Avon Trust works with schools every year to provide free orchards of ten fruit trees. Orchards can include apples, pears, plums or cherries: all top quality English stock. From 2016-2019 the scheme has been supported by Western Power Distribution, with previous sponsors including Airbus UK and the John Lewis Partnership: thank you all!

We do have occasional business sponsorship to plant additional orchards. If you are interested, please email treesforclimate@forestofavontrust.org. The number of orchards offered each years depends on the sponsorship available.

If you seek tree planting at your school then we can provide this if we have funding available. We are actively looking for sites to plant trees in schools across the West of England so do get in touch at the email above!

Trees for Learning Project: Free Trees, Support & Resources

The Forest of Avon Trust was funded by Defra (as part of a national programme for all England's Community Forests) to work with schools to promote the benefits of trees and woodlands and to support them to plant trees to improve school grounds. We provided free trees, active engagement of children in the benefits of trees, as well as support with planting and aftercare. This scheme was available to primary schools across the Forest of Avon Community Forest (Bristol and the West of England) and the Great Western Community Forest (in and around Swindon).

Whilst the project has now closed, if we have the resources and funding available, we can work with your school to plant trees. Please email treesforclimate@forestofavontrust.org.
